Amazon.com (AMZN): The technology company plans to lay off as many as 30,000 employees starting as early as Tuesday. Amazon is due to post quarterly earnings on Thursday.
Whirlpool $(WHR)$: The appliance maker's adjusted earnings per share topped expectations and its sales unexpectedly rose last quarter. However, shares fell in offhours trading.
Bed Bath & Beyond $(BBBY)$: The retailer said its net loss narrowed last quarter and it expects revenue growth next year. The stock rallied offhours.
NextEra Energy $(NEE)$: Shares in the nuclear-energy company rallied in premarket trading on the news of a partnership with Google to reopen a dormant plant. NextEra is due to post earnings this morning, while Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL, GOOG) is set to report on Wednesday.
Earnings are also due from UnitedHealth $(UNH)$, PayPal (PYPL), Royal Caribbean $(RCL)$ and UPS $(UPS)$ on Tuesday morning.
Nvidia (NVDA): Chief Executive Jensen Huang is due to give a keynote at noon ET on artificial intelligence at a company conference in Washington.
Novartis (CH:NOVN, NVS): Shares of the Swiss drugmaker fell after it reported disappointing quarterly financial results. Over the weekend, it agreed to buy Avidity Biosciences (RNA), a biotechnology company, for $12 billion.
