Century Aluminum's joint venture in Jamaica avoided significant damage from Hurricane Melissa and has begun work to resume production.

The aluminum company's Jamalco joint venture in Clarendon, Jamaica, preemptively pulled back production at its refinery and mines over the weekend ahead of Tuesday's landfall, the company said Wednesday. No employees were injured and there was no material damage to its refinery, mines or port operations.

Jamalco plans to increase production to normal levels during the next few weeks.

Century Aluminum said it does not expect the impact to have a material effect on its financials.
