Valero Reports Power Outage at Corpus Christi West Refinery: Filing -- OPIS

Oct 31

Valero on Tuesday into Wednesday reported emissions at the west plant of its 301,000 b/d Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery due to a power outage, according to a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) filing.

"A power disruption caused by an off-site power provider resulted in the loss of electrical power in the West Plant," the report stated. "As a result, protective safety shutdown sequences were automatically initiated, including venting of process gases to facility flares."

The emissions event started at 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday and concluded at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the filing noted.

A Valero spokesperson was not available for comment by the time of publication.
