NUCLEAR STOCKS ARE SOME OF THE MOST SHORTED NAMES IN THE US

Nuclear fuel supplier Centrus Energy LEU.A and nuclear reactor developer Nano Nuclear Energy NNE.O are some of the most shorted companies in the U.S., S&P Global Market Intelligence data showed.

The data provider filtered out some of the most shorted companies in the U.S. based on several metrics including a minimum market cap of $375 million and a minimum of 15% of its shares outstanding are on loan.

Taking into account these classifications, Centrus has a short interest of 37.23% of its outstanding shares - the highest on the list - followed by Nano Nuclear Energy at 33.19% of shares outstanding.

Companies that are involved in nuclear energy production have been in focus of late amid expectations of elevated energy demand due to the rise of power-hungry data centers.

Other prominent names on the list with high short interest include restaurant chain Cracker Barrel Old Country CBRL.O - whose shares declined sharply last month on backlash over its logo change - and biotech firm Novavax NVAX.O.

In Europe, Danish shipping company Maersk MAERSKb.CO and British support services provider DCC DCC.L have relatively elevated short interest, S&P Global Market Intelligence data showed.

Short selling is a strategy where investors borrow shares and sell them, aiming to buy them back later at a lower price to profit from a decline.
