Credit Agricole's Results Fail to Excite -- Market Talk

0813 GMT - Credit Agricole posted third-quarter earnings that were flattered by gains from its Banco BPM stake and good performance at its corporate centre, leading to a low-quality beat, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods says. The French bank's key areas--French retail, insurance and cost management--underperformed, leaving little to be excited about in an underwhelming set of results, analysts Thomas Hallett and Andrew Stimpson write. "With results from peers somewhat stronger, we are not sure if this does enough first thing," they note. Shares open 2.6% lower after the mixed print. Focus now turns to the bank's investor day on Nov. 18. (elena.vardon@wsj.com)
