This technology should not only unlock value from Cangai’s historical waste, but positions Infinity at the forefront of sustainable mining in Australia. For our shareholders, it means potential near-term asset producing cash flows, enhanced asset values, and exciting growth opportunities through follow on projects. Chairman Cameron PetricevicWartime shortages and progressive exhaustion of mine resources shuttered Cangai in 1917, leaving behind dumps of what were then seen as worthless tailings but are now being eyed by Infinity as tomorrow’s potential treasure trove.Infinity snapped up the project in November 2024, viewing those stranded assets as a low-hanging opportunity to turn waste into wealth, particularly given the recent surge in demand for battery metals and critical minerals amid the prevailing global green energy imperative.Laboratory tests on Cangai samples have already hinted at potentially big wins, promising full copper recoveries alongside associated metals such as like zinc, gold and silver that conventional methods would miss, all with slashed water use, minimal staffing and low-capex modular plants that are cheaper than a full-scale mill.For Infinity, the proposal is a blueprint for lean operations with low upfront capital requirements, quick timelines to first cash and scalability to potentially rehabilitate other Australian project sites.The proposal could also potentially be applied to other intractable toxic sites that could be laden with cadmium- or arsenic-laced waste, potentially slashing cleanup costs while mining fresh value.The partnership isn’t limiting its ideas to a Cangai cleanup and recovery mission either.Infinity says under this agreement, the Cangai project will serve as the partnership’s Australian ‘Alpha Project’ to validate Orivium’s breakthrough metals recovery technology before a wider rollout across Infinity’s own 3700 square kilometre portfolio which spans NSW’s Macquarie Arc, Victoria’s Melbourne Zone, and WA’s East Pilbara.All of those regions are mining hotspots which feature high-grade copper, gold, lithium, and base metals near big-league operations.Teaming up with the University of Sydney’s brains-trust in chemical engineering and environmental science, the collaboration weaves academia into the mix for a shot at regenerative mining that also cuts import reliance and boosts Australia’s circular economy.Infinity and Orivium are already forming a technical cooperation committee to study project planning and feasibility studies on processing rates and plant specifications, with construction being slated for wrap-up by June 2026 - funded initially by Infinity in manageable bites, followed by reimbursement via grants and early output.To grease the wheels without dilution, Infinity and Orivium have applied for $2.9 million in Federal Government Cooperative Research Centre Projects funding, with any awarded funding expected to be notified in Q3 FY26.The initial stage of the MOC will aim at processing and rehabilitating the old tails dumps and stockpiles at Cangai, with plans to progressively expand the collaboration into broader mining activities across Australia, exploiting the strengths of both companies to unlock further mineral resources.Infinity holds an existing mining license for the Cangai site and will promptly collaborate with the NSW Resources Regulator to advance its plans for the site.Formerly known as EcoMetalx, Orivium is a private company founded in 2020 and operationally headquartered in Melbourne, stemming from co-founder and CEO Emma Clark’s deep connections there – including as a University of Melbourne alumni - where much of the Super Oxidiser technology was developed.In a sector hungry for green wins, a revival of Cangai could prove that yesterday’s scraps are the key to tomorrow’s metal rush – and hey, if it works, it sure beats mining it.Is your ASX-listed company doing something interesting?
