1404 ET - Canadian Tire's results were above expectation thanks to two of its three banners. In a report, Scotiabank notes that Mark's and SportChek performed well, with SportChek posting 4.2% same-store sales growth in 3Q, topping consensus of 2.4%. Mark's outperformed as well, with growth of 2.5% same-store sales, compared with expectations of 2.1%. The problem was in the core banner, Canadian Tire Retail, which had same-store sales of only 1.2%, missing the 3% mark expected by analysts. However, Scotiabank says that overall, it was still a good performance. "We consider this a strong quarterly result." Canadian Tire is up 6.5% at C$171.59. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
