The Federal Court of Australia ordered Insurance Australia Group's (ASX:IAG) Insurance Australia subsidiary, insurance provider to deregistered company Bradford Marine, to pay Helicopter Aerial Surveys (HAS) about AU$507,511 plus interest after finding the insurer liable under a marine trades policy held by Bradford, according to a Friday ruling by the court.
HAS sought to recover amounts owed by Bradford under the Corporations Act, which allows claims to be made directly against the insurer of a deregistered company, the court document showed.
Bradford was earlier found liable to HAS for AU$260,000 in damages plus AU$320,000 in costs over defective maintenance works carried out on HAS's vessel.
The court also ordered that HAS file affidavits and written submissions in relation to costs by Nov. 21, and ordered Insurance Australia to file the same by Dec. 5.
IAG did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
