NZ ComCom Recommends Scrapping Regulation of Telecom Companies' Mobile Termination Access Services

New Zealand's Commerce Commission recommended in a draft report that regulations concerning mobile termination access services (MTAS) offered by telecom providers such as Spark New Zealand (NZE:SPK, ASX:SPK) may no longer be required.

MTAS is a regulated telecommunication service that provides for the termination on a cellular mobile network of voice calls and short message service, according to the report.

The shift in both consumer behavior and market dynamics shows that the relevance of the regulation has reduced, the Commission said.

Submissions on the Commission's draft recommendations are due by Dec. 3, per the statement.

Shares of the company fell past 1% in recent Wednesday trade in Australia.
