Still, a bad month hasn't completely ruined the past year with the stock gaining 70%, which is great even in a bull market.    Although its price has dipped substantially, Dream International may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-earnings (or \"P/E\") ratio of 7.3x, since almost half of all companies in Hong Kong have P/E ratios greater than 13x and even P/E's higher than 24x are not unusual. The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/E as low as Dream International's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the market.   If we review the last year of earnings, dishearteningly the company's profits fell to the tune of 1.1%.   Even so, admirably EPS has lifted 119% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months.  Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would probably welcome the medium-term rates of earnings growth.     Weighing that recent medium-term earnings trajectory against the broader market's one-year forecast for expansion of 20% shows it's noticeably more attractive on an annualised basis.  In light of this, it's peculiar that Dream International's P/E sits below the majority of other companies.  Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.    What We Can Learn From Dream International's P/E?  The softening of Dream International's shares means its P/E is now sitting at a pretty low level.      It's argued the price-to-earnings ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.  Our examination of Dream International revealed its three-year earnings trends aren't contributing to its P/E anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current market expectations.
