根据纽约联邦储备银行周五发布的月度调查，10月美国民众对就业市场的看法恶化，但对通胀的预期略有下降。
调查显示失业率预期连续第三个月上升，消费者认为未来一年美国失业率升高的概率平均为43%，为4月以来最高。
对未来一年通胀率的预期从9月的3.4%降至10月的3.2%，而对未来三年和五年的通胀率预期变化不大，均维持在3%附近。
这组数据可能加剧美联储官员之间的分歧，因为一方面就业市场疲弱迹象不断累积，另一方面通胀依然高于央行2%的目标。美联储上周将利率下调25个基点，但不少决策者对是否应继续降息表达了担忧。
纽约联储调查还显示，10月消费者认为失业后找到新工作的机会变小。与经济学家所描述的“低裁员、低招聘”环境一致，自愿离职的可能性下降，但对失业的预期也略有回落。
对家庭财务状况的预期继续恶化，更多受访者表示自己的经济状况比一年前更差，且预计一年后会更差。不过，对信贷环境的看法有所改善，认为贷款更难获得的家庭比例降至自2022年以来的最低水平。
