巴菲特在一封信中披露，自己将向四个家族基金会捐赠超过13亿美元，并称他将不再撰写柏克夏的年度信函和在公司会议上发言。巴菲特将于年底卸任该公司首席执行官一职。
这封信标志着巴菲特今年的交棒工作又推进了一程。此前，他在公司年度股东大会结束时出人意料地宣布，自己终于要“传位”给长期以来的副手格雷格·阿贝尔了。巴菲特给这位63岁的副手留下了在过去几年里增长至3820亿美元的现金储备，因为这位亿万富翁一直避免进行大规模收购和回购本公司股票。
虽然他表示自己总体上感觉“良好”，但他计划在有生之年“加快”向子女的基金会进行慈善捐款。
“虽然我行动缓慢，阅读也越来越困难，但我每周去办公室五天，和一群很棒的人一起工作，”巴菲特在信中说道。“偶尔，我会得到一些有用的想法，或者收到一些我们原本可能不会收到的提议。受柏克夏的规模以及市场水平的限制，想法不多 —— 但并非没有。”
