11月13日，微软计划利用其对OpenAI定制人工智能（AI）芯片研发的接入权限，来推进自身芯片项目。
在被问及自研芯片进展时，微软首席执行官Satya Nadella在一档播客节目中表示：“OpenAI即便在系统层面上进行创新，我们也能全面获得相应的接入权限。我们首先会为OpenAI把其构建的成果落地实现，之后再加以延展。”
根据两家公司修订后的协议，微软可使用OpenAI的模型直到2032年及其研究成果直到2030年，或直到专家小组认定通用人工智能已实现为止。微软在该合作中的知识产权权益不包括OpenAI的消费级硬件。
OpenAI计划与博通合作，设计定制芯片和网络硬件。微软也在努力推进自研芯片，但在这一领域的进展不如Alphabet旗下的谷歌。
