星巴克工人联合会（Starbucks Workers United）11月13日表示，全美星巴克的员工正式开始罢工，罢工将从65家门店开始，已准备好让这次罢工成为星巴克历史上最大规模、持续时间最长的罢工。此次罢工恰逢星巴克“红杯日”，即星巴克繁忙的促销活动日。星巴克发言人称，到目前为止，罢工影响很小，只有不到1%的门店受到干扰。今年4月，星巴克工会代表投票否决了星巴克保证每年至少加薪2%的提议，工人联合会表示，该提议没有改变医疗保健等经济福利，也没有立即加薪。今年9月，星巴克宣布将在美国和加拿大关闭数百家门店，并裁员900人左右。根据星巴克宣布的最新计划，该公司美国和加拿大门店总数将减少1%。
