Apple (AAPL) lost a trial on Friday over whether it violated technology company Masimo's (MASI) patents in some of its Apple Watch models and was ordered to pay $634 million in damages, news outlets reported Friday.

A California jury concluded that Apple infringed on four pulse-oximetry monitoring patents claimed by Masimo in around 43 million watches sold between 2020 and 2022, according to reports.

Masimo was seeking damages of between $634 million and $749 million, The Daily Journal reported.. 'This is a significant win in our ongoing efforts to protect our innovations and intellectual property," the company said in a statement.

Apple did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment. A statement cited by media reports said Apple intends to appeal.

"We disagree with today's decision, which we believe is contrary to the facts," Apple reportedly said in a statement.
