General Dynamics' electric boat subsidiary received a $2.28 billion addition to a previous grant for work with the U.S. Navy.

The defense contractor will receive the extra funding for additional advance procurement and construction on ballistic missile submarine hulls, the Navy said Monday.

The award is an addition to a 2020 grant from the Navy.

Work will be performed in Connecticut, Virginia and Rhode Island, and is scheduled to wrap up by December 2031.
