力拓（Rio Tinto）已同意与环保科技公司Calix合作，在西澳大利亚州测试其低排放炼铁工艺，并表示其自有的BioIron技术需要进一步完善。
该矿商周一表示，已签署一份联合开发协议，以帮助Calix推进其零排放钢铁技术（Zero Emissions Steel Technology， 简称Zesty）示范工厂的计划，该工厂可能建在珀斯以南的一个地点，力拓此前曾计划将该地点用于其BioIron研究设施和试点工厂。
力拓将投资超过3，500万澳元（合2，300万美元）帮助开发该示范工厂，如果获批，还将从其皮尔巴拉业务供应不超过1万吨铁矿石，用于该工厂的调试和初步测试。
该公司表示，Zesty工艺利用电加热和氢还原技术生产低排放铁。Calix还获得了澳大利亚政府4，490万澳元的拨款。
