U.K. Government Seeks Bankers to Advise on British Steel Sale, FT Says, Citing Sources

--The U.K. government is hopeful of finding a private buyer for British Steel and is planning to select bankers to run a sales process, the Financial Times reports, citing unnamed sources.

--Sale advisers haven't yet been appointed and it is expected that any process would run despite China's Jingye Steel still technically owning the Scunthorpe site and assets, according to the FT.

--A representative for British Steel declined to comment while Jingye didn't respond to requests. A government spokesperson said: "We will ensure a bright and sustainable future for steelmaking and steel jobs in the UK and are continuing discussions with Jingye over the long-term future of the site."
