Umicore shares fell after Groupe Bruxelles Lambert said it sold 19.6 million shares of the Brussels-listed materials-tech and recycling group for 300 million euros ($347.8 million).

Shares were down 12%, at 14.88 euros in early afternoon European trading, leading the STOXX 600 index fallers. They are currently up 49% over the year to date.

GBL said Tuesday that the shares sold represent about 8% of Umicore's issued share capital and half of its stake in the company. The shares were sold via a bookbuild program.

The investment holding company said the sale was in line with the company's portfolio simplification objective.

GBL shares were down 0.8 euros, or 1.1%, at 73.05 euros. They are currently up 11% over the year to date.
