1847 ET - Jack in the Box CEO Lance Tucker says consumers are increasingly looking for value. The fast-food chain's latest quarter got a rocky start, but sales improved as the company rejiggered its promotions to draw cautious consumers, he says during a call with analysts. "Our category is more competitive than ever, and consumers are very careful about where they spend," he says. In the current quarter, the company has moved to make its signature combos more affordable and increased cup sizes on its small combos, he says. "While we know these changes won't improve results overnight, we are taking necessary steps to enhance how we improve our value perception," he says. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
