BJ's 3Q Same-Store Fuel Volume Outperforms U.S. Fuel Industry -- OPIS

BJ's Wholesale Club Holdings recorded a 2% year-to-year increase in same-store fuel volume in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, which ended Nov. 1, the company said Friday during a call discussing financial results.

BJ's outperformed the U.S. fuel industry, which averaged low single-digit declines in same-store fuel volume during the same period, according to OPIS DemandPro. U.S. gasoline stations averaged a 3% year-to-year decline August through October from the same three months a year ago.

Though BJ's executives offered no further details on fuel results, overall fuel volume is likely higher with the pace of new club openings. BJ's said it plans 14 new clubs in fiscal 2025, opening eight clubs year-to-date and targeting six more openings by the end of the year.

As it announced quarterly results, the warehouse club said it opened new locations in Mesquite, Texas, and Foley, Ala. The Mesquite club is BJ's fifth club in Texas and the Foley club is the second in Alabama.

The company previously said it plans 25 to 30 new clubs in fiscal 2025 and 2026, including its remaining FY 2025 openings in Sumter, S.C.; Springfield, Mass.; Casselberry, Fla.; Selma, N.C.; Chattanooga, Tenn., and Delray Beach, Fla.

OPIS data shows BJ's increased its gasoline market share year to year during its third quarter. During the period, BJ's ranked 33rd in U.S. gasoline brand market share based on visits at 0.74%, versus 35th with market share at 0.69% a year earlier.

The company, which is headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., opened its first club in 1984 and now operates 257 clubs with 194 BJ's Gas locations in 21 states.
