FanDuel Sees Prediction Markets Adding Customers, Profit -- Market Talk

1223 ET - FanDuel's prediction markets platform is expected to expand access to a larger population not reachable through online sports betting, Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey says. The company believes the platform will provide incremental profit potential and will help acquire customers into the FanDuel ecosystem in states where online sports betting isn't yet legal. It could also pressure more states to legalize sports betting if they see users placing wagers through prediction markets, but aren't accruing the taxes they would from traditional sports betting, Hickey says. FanDuel is only operating prediction markets in states where sports betting isn't legal, and plans to cease those operations if states legalize sports betting. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
