1323 ET - The current consumer environment features decent consumer financial health but low consumer confidence, an ideal combination for off-price retailers, say UBS analysts. While consumers are feeling more financially secure, they are also increasingly concerned about the labor market and the economy's path, according to the analysts. "US consumers have financial resources to fuel strong growth. Yet, US consumers' concerns about the future likely drive them to incrementally look to save money," the analysts say. "Therefore, we expect consumers will find off-price retail's value-for-money offering particularly attractive this holiday season." The analysts say they predict TJX Companies and Burlington Stores will thrive in this environment, and have buy recommendations on both stocks. Alternatively, they have sell ratings on both Kohl's and Macy's. (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
