Large Caps Could Be Ready to Return to New Zealand in 2026 -- Market Talk

0013 GMT - A top theme for New Zealand's equity market in 2026: The return of the large caps. That is the view of Forsyth Barr, which says it is entering 2026 with a strong sense of optimism as New Zealand's economy recovers. In New Zealand this year, mid-cap stocks had their strongest relative performance to large caps since 2006, analyst Matt Montgomerie says. And that script could flip. "We currently have the lowest estimated total return spread between large caps and mid/small caps for the last decade," Forsyth Barr says. Its top five stocks for 2026 are SkyCity Entertainment, Oceania Healthcare, Mainfreight, Ebos, and Port of Tauranga. (david.winning@wsj.com; @dwinningWSJ)
