09:11 ET - The timing of Confluent and IBM's deal is surprising, though the deal itself is not, D.A. Davidson analysts say in a note. The analysts say they would have expected Confluent to try and record several quarters of strong results and shown stabilizing cloud growth before selling, given that would have helped its shares appreciate close to the rumored deal value, they say. "We would have figured the company would have held out for a while longer in hopes they could deliver strong results for more than just one quarter," they say. The note came after The Wall Street Journal reported on the deal talks late Sunday. The companies confirmed the deal Monday.(kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
