Mitsui Starts Gas Output at Waitsia Project in Western Australia

Mitsui & Co's (TYO:8031) Australia unit said it has begun gas output from the new Waitsia plant near Dongara, marking a key step in one of Australia's largest onshore gas projects, according to a Monday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The venture with Beach Energy will supply Western Australia's domestic market and support LNG exports. The project will move toward full capacity in the coming months.

Waitsia is about 16 km southeast of Dongara and includes a new plant that will lift combined field output to 250 terajoules a day with the Xyris facility. The field sits on privately owned farmland in the Mid West region.
