路透12月9日 - 美国军方表示，计划建立小型精炼厂生产用于制造子弹、装甲和其他武器的关键矿物，此举旨在开发长期以来由中国矿商控制的特殊材料的国内来源。
这些此前未曾报道过的计划，是由美国陆军、爱达荷国家实验室（INL）以及锑金矿开采公司Perpetua ResourcesPPTA.O共同制定的。 锑是军方计划提炼的第一种矿物。
虽然陆军表示不打算为私人用途大量生产矿物，但这种小规模的生产方式可以稳定地获得这些基础材料，而无需依赖商业精炼厂。
“我们需要找到一种方法，在国内生产我们自己的（关键矿物），这样我们才能在国内对其进行监控和控制，”美国陆军军需品采购顾问Mark Mezger表示。
为了生产锑，美国陆军花费了3000万美元，历时数年开发精炼厂项目，由私营企业 Westpro Machinery 设计了一种可以用四个集装箱运输的精炼厂。
该精炼厂每年可生产7至10吨三硫化锑，远低于商业精炼厂的产量，但在和平时期可以满足陆军的需求。(完)
