9:55 ET -- Canadians appear to be spending more confidently this holiday season, with Visa reporting a 4.4% year-over-year increase in total retail spending across all payment types. Most purchases still happen in stores, according to Visa data, which account for 88% of holiday spending, but online shopping continues to grow, rising 7% as shoppers respond to longer promotions and the convenience of buying digitally. Visa also says that artificial intelligence is starting to influence how consumers search for products and compare prices, contributing to more deliberate and informed spending decisions.
