U.S. Natural Gas Gains on Weather -- Market Talk

0944 ET - U.S. natural gas futures shift higher in volatile holiday trade. "Some cold for the eastern seaboard was added to the weather outlooks for the last week of the year in this morning's update, and that has markets screaming higher," Gary Cunningham of Tradition Energy says in a note. "With liquidity thinning we are seeing big moves on little news." Record consumption of gas by LNG export terminals is a reminder that domestic weather isn't the only driver of demand, he adds. "Production outlooks for early 2026 remain relatively flat, but some incremental output from the Permian is possible with new outtake capacity available and strong demands from the Gulf coast region." Nymex natural gas is up 4.2% at $4.131/mmBtu. (anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
