Persimmon's 2026 Warning Rattles U.K. House-Building Sector -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Jan 13

0930 GMT - Shares in U.K. house builders fall after Persimmon warned of unchanged conditions in the housing market in 2026 and continued affordability constraints. The company also said that fewer bulk sales in the order book and continued challenges in the registered provider market--referring to sales made to housing associations and local authorities--were likely to slow growth in the year. Persimmon also expects underlying build-cost inflation to mirror 2025 levels, while bracing for regulatory headwinds--specifically the doubling of landfill tax in April and its subsequent annual hikes. Taylor Wimpey shares are down 1.1%, Berkeley falls 0.8%, Crest Nicholson loses 0.5%, and Bellway declines 0.3%. Persimmon shares are up 0.4% at 14.21 pounds.
