James Hardie Industries (ASX:JHX) is set to close the manufacturing facilities in Fontana, California, and Summerville, South Carolina, within the next 60 days, and the sites' manufacturing operations will be absorbed by other facilities, according to a Friday Australian bourse filing.

It expects the site closures and optimization initiatives to generate annualized cost savings of around AU$25 million, beginning in the first quarter of fiscal 2027. It also expects to incur one-time pre-tax charges of around AU$40 million to AU$44 million, in connection with the site closures and optimization actions, expected to be recognized primarily in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.

The Fontana and Summerville facilities represent around 6% of the firm's year-to-date North American volume. The Fontana site's Innovation and Research & Development functions will remain in operation.

The firm's Chief Executive, Aaron Erter, said that it decided to transfer more production volume to its modern, advanced plants after a review of its manufacturing network.

The company's shares rose around 3% in recent Friday trade.
