-- Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena CEO and billionaire investor Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone--who is a major shareholder of insurer Generali--are locked in a dispute over plans for Italian lender Mediobanca, the Financial Times reports, citing unnamed sources.

-- The disagreements are centered on the prospect of a full-blown merger between the two banks, mainly due to the implication for Mediobanca's stake in Italian insurer Generali, the FT say. A deal would lead to the delisting of Mediobanca and MPS being able to decide on the future of the stake in the Generali, including a potential sale.
