力拓和必和必拓集团表示，双方已同意在澳大利亚皮尔巴拉（Pilbara）矿区合作，从各自拥有的相邻业务中开采最高2亿吨铁矿石。这两家公司在周四的一份声明中表示，根据两份不具约束力的协议，双方将考虑合作开发力拓的Wunbye矿床。这些公司称，它们还将探讨必和必拓是否将其Yandi Lower Channel Deposit矿石供应给力拓，由力拓利用其现有的湿法选矿厂进行加工。必和必拓和力拓是按市值计全球最大的两家矿商，也位列最大的铁矿石生产商行列，铁矿石用于生产钢铁。力拓铁矿石业务负责人马修·霍尔茨（Matthew Holcz）说：“通过更巧妙地合作，我们可以更好地利用现有基础设施，以最低的资本要求释放额外的产量。”
