Jan 23 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms META.O and EssilorLuxottica ESLX.PA were sued in a U.S. court on Friday by a smartglasses maker that claims they copied its technology for their competing wearables.

Solos Technology said in a patent infringement lawsuit filed in Massachusetts federal court that the companies' products rely on "foundational technologies" it developed related to smartglasses audio, sensing, processing and other features.

The lawsuit said Meta's product collaborations with EssilorLuxottica sunglass brands Ray-Ban and Oakley infringe five of its patents. Solos requested "multiple billions of dollars" in damages from Meta and EssilorLuxottica, as well as court orders blocking the alleged infringement.

Spokespeople for Meta and EssilorLuxottica did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A Solos spokesperson said the complaint speaks for itself.

Solos, which is incorporated in Hong Kong and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was spun off from Massachusetts-based wearable developer Kopin Corp in 2019. According to the lawsuit, Meta employees had "studied Solos’ products, cited Solos’ patents, interacted with inventors, and gained insight into Solos’ engineering work" before it started selling its smartglasses in 2021.

Solos said revenue from Meta's Ray-Ban smartglasses is projected to generate $10 billion in revenue by 2030.

The case is Solos Technology Ltd v. Meta Platforms Inc, U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, No. 1:26-cv-10304
