NSW Tribunal Grants First Nations Woman Leave to Proceed With Racial Discrimination Claim Against Coles

A New South Wales (NSW) Tribunal has granted Janice Edwards, a First Nations woman, leave to proceed before the Tribunal, with her alleged direct racial discrimination claim against Coles Group (ASX:COL), according to a Wednesday ruling.

The woman filed a complaint against Coles with the NSW President of the Anti-Discrimination Board (ADNSW) after she was subjected to a security check by a staff member at her local Coles supermarket, the ruling said.

The ADNSW declined her complaint due to lack of substance, following which the woman referred the matter to the Tribunal, the ruling added.

The Tribunal did not allow her to proceed further unless she was granted leave to do so.

The company did not immediately respond to MT Newswire's respond to a comment.
