尽管严寒天气正席卷美国南部，促使当地采取节电措施，但展望本月中旬之前的天气，整体气温将更加温和。根据美国国家海洋和大气管理局(NOAA)的数据，美国大片地区的气温预计将高于常年水平。这很可能会抑制对天然气的需求，而天然气主要用于供暖和发电。
过去几周，美国天然气期货价格大幅震荡。2月合约在上周三到期前一度飙升至三年来高点，主要受一场扰乱生产、并推高取暖需求的冬季风暴推动。3月合约则在上周五再次上涨，因交易员消化了相互矛盾的天气预报以及一份偏多的政府库存报告。
