Shares of Enphase Energy surged in post-market trading after the energy technology company posted profit and revenue that--while down from the prior year--still topped Wall Street's estimates.

The stock rose 22% to $45.42 in late trading on Tuesday. Shares have risen 16% in the last three months.

The Fremont, Calif., company also forecasted first-quarter revenue of between $270 million and $300 million. If that guidance holds, it would beat the $262.2 million analysts are expecting, according to FactSet.

Enphase reported a fourth-quarter profit of $38.7 million, or 29 cents a share, down from $62.2 million, or 45 cents, in the same period a year earlier. Analysts had forecast a profit of $23.2 million, or 17 cents per share.

Adjusted earnings per share was 71 cents, down from 94 cents a year earlier, but ahead of the 59 cents analysts expected, according to FactSet.

Revenue came in at $343.3 million, down from $382.7 million a year earlier. That still topped Wall Street's estimate of $338.4 million, based on a survey by FactSet.
