Meanwhile, the non-energy minerals sector shares fell almost 2%.
Santana Minerals (NZE:SMI, ASX:SMI) was down almost 4% in recent trade.
The company said on Thursday that the fast-track approvals process for its Bendigo-Ophir gold project has reached a key milestone, with a formal decision now expected by Oct. 29.
