Taiwanese tech companies Asustek Computer (TPE:2357) and Acer (TPE:2353), as well as U.S.-based HP and Dell are looking to purchase memory chips from Chinese manufacturers while supplies are scarce, Nikkei Asia reported Thursday.
Acer signified openness to purchasing China-made memory chips should Chinese contract suppliers buy them, the report said, citing sources.
"As long as the Chinese suppliers' new capacity goes online, it will help improve the [memory crunch] situation," Nikkei quoted Acer Chairman Jason Chen as saying.
Asus has also called on its Chinese production partners to purchase memory chips for its notebook projects, according to the report.
U.S. companies Dell and HP have started qualifying China's ChangXin Memory Technologies as an alternative supplier, the report said, citing three people with knowledge of the matter.
