Valero Energy on Friday began maintenance work on its 204,000 b/d McKee refinery in Texas and told state environmental officials that the work will likely lead to flaring.

In a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the company said the work was scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and is expected to be completed late Tuesday morning. The maintenance will be conducted in the refinery's Complex 1 and will involve the FCC unit, Valero added.

Valero didn't respond to a request for information on the work Friday afternoon. The company recently conducted maintenance on McKee's Complex 1 Jan. 20 to Jan. 22, according to an earlier filing.
