要知道马斯克个人财富刚刚突破历史新高，超过8500亿美元，是人类历史上首位达到这一财富规模的个人。他因此领先全球第二富翁5780亿美元（谷歌联合创始人拉里·佩奇，2810亿美元），更是已超过全球富豪榜第二至第五名资产总和。在这样的背景下，马斯克突然发出“钱买不到幸福”的感慨，就让人莫名感到戏剧性。
他还称幸福两大要素：“如果你拥有爱情的幸福，并且热爱你的工作，你就会完全幸福；如果只拥有其中一项，你只能获得一半的幸福。”去年12月在访谈中，马斯克还分享了自己的感悟：“不要直接追逐金钱，要成为净价值创造者。创造有用的产品和服务，金钱自然会来，这也是幸福的关键”。
