Chevron (CVX) ConocoPhillips (COP), TotalEnergies (TTE), and Eni (E) are among the energy majors to be awarded deals to explore for natural gas in Syria, state-owned Syrian Petroleum Company Chief Executive Youssef Qablawi was quoted as saying in an interview published Wednesday by the Financial Times.
Qablawi was quoted as saying that Syria has reserves of undiscovered oil and gas.
"Maybe more than a quarter, or less than a third, has been explored," he was quoted as saying by the FT. "There is a lot of land in the country that has not been touched yet. There are trillions of cubic meters of gas."
Qablawai was quoted as saying that Chevron and Qatar's Power International last week agreed to explore a block.
The companies did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
