New Kroger CEO Likely to Begin Investment Cycle -- Market Talk

Feb 10

1115 ET - Kroger bringing in former Walmart executive Greg Foran as its new chief executive will likely give investors confidence, but progress could take some time, UBS analysts say. The new appointment will likely start the beginning of an investing cycle with Foran possibly investing in wages, labor and price, while also optimizing the e-commerce approach, in order to set up the company for longer-term growth. "He has a deep understanding of food retail, e-commerce and business transformation," the analysts say. But "it's likely that a plan will require taking at least some temporary steps back before moving forward." Shares rise 6.3%. (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
