美国总统特朗普周一承认，他2017年决定不让凯文·沃什担任美联储主席是一个“非常大的错误”，并将这归咎于来自他前财政部长的压力。
特朗普在一次采访中回顾了2017年美联储主席的遴选过程，最终杰罗姆·鲍威尔当选。特朗普透露，沃什原本是他心目中的“第二人选”，但他最终还是受到了时任财政部长史蒂文·姆努钦的影响。
“我犯了个错误，因为我的财政部长非常想要他，”特朗普说，并补充道，“我对鲍威尔的感觉并不好，但有时候你会听取别人的意见。这是一个错误，一个非常大的错误。”
就在几天前，特朗普正式提名沃什接替鲍威尔，后者将于2026年5月任期届满。
特朗普对这位新提名人选充满信心，称沃什是一位“高素质人才”，能够刺激美国经济以惊人的15%的速度增长。
沃什曾任美联储理事（2006-2011年），他的提名已令全球市场震荡。沃什传统上被视为通胀鹰派，但近期他的立场与特朗普的促增长政策相符。
宏观专家认为，沃什可能会宣布多达五次降息，这与美联储目前“反应式”的、依赖数据的模式截然不同。
沃什曾公开批评现行的银行监管“陈旧过时”，并呼吁“改革美国监管体系”，以简化资本拨付流程。
