Target's new chief executive, Michael Fiddelke, is shaking up the company's leadership, replacing the head of merchandising at the retail giant and bringing in a new chief operating officer.
The company said Tuesday that chief commercial officer Rick Gomez would leave the company, while Jill Sando, who oversees merchandising for apparel and accessories, home and Fun101, will retire.
Fiddelke appointed Lisa Roath, who previously oversaw merchandising for food, essentials and beauty, as chief operating officer. He named Cara Sylvester, currently chief guest experience officer, as chief merchandising officer.
"It's the start of a new chapter for Target and we're moving quickly to take action against our priorities that will drive growth within our business," Fiddelke said. "These leadership changes align the right talent and expertise with key roles, and simplify our structure so we can advance our strategy with greater speed, clarity and accountability."
Both Roath and Sylvester will report directly to Fiddelke. They begin their new roles on Feb. 15.
The company said Gomez and Sando will stay on for brief periods to support the transition.
It added that it was conducting an external search for a chief guest experience and marketing officer.
Target also reaffirmed its previous guidance for sales, earnings per share and adjusted earnings per share for the current fourth quarter.
