Energy Services of America shares were 34% higher, at $12.74, after the company reported first-quarter revenue and earnings that were higher than last year.
The stock hit its 52-week high of $13.20 earlier in the session, and is 23% higher in the past 12 months.
The contractor and services company said it had quarterly earnings of $2.7 million, or 16 cents a share, compared with $854,000, or 5 cents a share, in the same quarter last year.
Revenue for the quarter was $114.1 million, compared with last year's $100.6 million.
The company said it saw "robust demand" within its gas & water distribution segment, and growth within its gas & petroleum transmission segment from two new projects awarded during the quarter. It also saw a $42 million sequential increase in its backlog. Backlog as of Dec. 31 was $301.4 million, compared with $259.7 million on Sept. 30.
