BYD (HKG:1211, SHE:002594) filed a case against the U.S. government over President Donald Trump's imposition of tariffs, Reuters reported Monday, citing court documents.
The lawsuit also requests a refund of all tariffs paid since April 2025, according to the report, citing documents filed with the U.S. Court of International Trade in late January.
BYD's case bears a semblance to those filed by global companies with U.S. operations questioning Trump's use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to collect border taxes.
The Chinese carmaker's case says the law does not authorize border taxes as the text of the IEEPA does not contain the word "tariff," the report said.
