法国总统马克龙周三以美国政府对埃隆·马斯克的星链项目的支持为例，论证了公共投资对欧洲工业的重要性，称马斯克获得了美国政府的“过度补贴”。这引发了来自世界首富的回应。
在比利时安特卫普市举行的一次工业峰会上，马克龙主张采取“购买欧洲产品”的竞争策略，并呼吁进行大规模投资，部分资金将通过欧盟的联合借贷来筹集。
他说：“如果你看看美国的情况，你会发现那里有大量的私人资金……但同时也有大量的公共资金。”
“所有人都对星链着迷……但如果你头脑清醒的话，就会发现马斯克先生可能是世界上从美国纳税人那里获取资金最多的人之一。我的意思是，埃隆·马斯克首先是一个接受美国联邦机构过度补贴的人。好消息，这使他极具创新精神。”马克龙说。
马斯克迅速在其拥有的社交媒体平台X上回击了马克龙对他的言论，称欧洲各国对本国产业的补贴比美国更多。
马斯克说：“如果把特斯拉和SpaceX迄今为止获得的所有政府资助加起来，也仅占这两家公司总市值的1%左右。相比之下，如果对美国和欧洲的主要航空航天公司也这样计算，那么它们获得的政府资助超过了它们自身价值的100%！”
