China's Wuxi solar hub to create space photovoltaic platform

BEIJING, Feb 11 (Reuters) - China's solar hub of Wuxi is creating a space solar coordination platform, the eastern city's development and reform commission said in a Wechat post on Wednesday, following reports that Tesla TSLA.O CEO Elon Musk visited Chinese solar companies.

Here are some details:

  • The Wuxi development and reform commission held a meeting on Tuesday to promote collaboration on spaced-based photovoltaic technology.

  • The government said space solar has development potential in the longer term, and committed to play a coordinating role and build a collaboration platform.

  • Firms at the Tuesday meeting include Jiangsu Guoyu Star Technology, Hongyuan Green Energy, Jiangsu Yixing Derong Technology, Jidian Solar Energy, Wuxi Huasheng Photovoltaic Technology, and Yangtze River Delta Solar PV Technology Innovation Center.

  • Elon Musk announced on February 3 that SpaceX and xAI would merge in a push to create space-based internet services and data centres.
