Telus's long-serving chief executive, Darren Entwistle, will hand the reins at the Canadian communications-technology company to former Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce boss Victor Dodig.

Entwistle will retire on June 30 following a 26-year tenure as Telus's president and CEO, the company said Thursday.

Dodig, who has been an independent director on the Telus board since May 2022, becomes CEO-designate with immediate effect and will join the company's leadership team full time on May 1, before taking over as CEO at the start of July.

Entwistle also will step down from the Telus board at the end of June, and the company plans to honor him with the title CEO Emeritus.

Dodig joins Telus after serving as president and CEO of CIBC, one of Canada's biggest banks, from 2014 to 2025.
